Digital Construction

Bold and complex architecture requires advanced technology to minimize challenges. Before we build in the field, we first build in the computer. These 3D models allow us to minimize conflicts before they arise on-site. There are extensive blind spots in 2D drawings. By modeling key components of the project in 3D, we shrink blind spots and synchronize architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in one central model. Through virtual construction, we avoid heating ducts running into structural beams. With one 3D model uniting all the specialties, we proactively and efficiently detect clashes and resolve conflicts before we start building.

This is digital construction.

“Digital construction is a framework for thinking. It’s a process that’s uniquely applied to every project.”

- Ethan Romnor,

Digital Construction Director

Using digital construction is a smart move – it enhances coordination and conflict resolution with our architecture, engineering, and subcontractor teams by providing more accurate information earlier in the process. We resolve constructability issues before they are built, allowing for greater control over schedule and budget. It also provides interactive records of our work, which prove invaluable for future maintenance and service. Dovetail uses digital construction to elevate the entire construction process, producing a more efficient, more effective, and more enjoyable experience for the whole team.
