Dovetail Spotlight: Amy Persell — 10 Years With Dovetail
“Dovetail, as we know it, would not be operating at the high level that it does without the constant and watchful eye of Amy. She has a balanced way of nudging those who need to stay on top of their paperwork, giving grace while not surrendering. I admire her poise and wit and appreciate all that she does.”
This Spring, our Billing & Payroll Specialist, Amy Persell, is celebrating a decade with Dovetail. Born and raised in Washington state, Amy has a long history of management in multiple industries, including being the assistant manager of a fabric store, a delivery route manager, and an assistant business manager, as well as a mother to two children.
In 2016, Amy joined Dovetail after seeing a job posting for an Accounts Payable Specialist. “I read about Dovetail, saw the amazing work they’d done, and applied, hoping to become a part of their team. I’ve always enjoyed building small projects at home. I’ve built the wood fences surrounding our yard, a hutch for our rabbits, a chicken coop, a woodshed, installed all the tile work in our home, and more. I enjoy the creativity and satisfaction from completing these kinds of things, and working at Dovetail, I love to see the progress of professional projects throughout the building and billing process,” said Amy.
Amy hit the ground running in her AP role and quickly excelled into Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Payroll responsibilities. Looking back on the last decade, she’s noticed shifts within the industry and within Dovetail. “When I first started with Dovetail, we printed out everything—all vendor invoices, billing packets, contracts, payroll reports, and more. Everything in the front office was so paper-intensive. I am happy that most of the accounting department's work is now digital. It has saved so much time, it is easier to keep track of and reference things, and we’ve probably saved thousands of trees,” Amy said. “When I started here 10 years ago, the Dovetail team consisted of about 50 people. It has been exciting to see Dovetail continue to grow, to double their number of employees, create other divisions within the company, and expand projects into other states.”
Reflecting on all she’s learned in the last ten years at Dovetail, Amy replied, “I’ve come to realize that looking towards a solution and contributing to a positive outcome is much less stressful than focusing on the problem! And you know, having the privilege to be part of a company you value, and working with a team you appreciate, certainly helps a person love what they do!”
